Turkey's leading harpist, Zeynep Öykü is the first and only performer of the triple harp in her country. She's also the only harpist focusing on early music, from Medieval to Baroque. She plays a variety of harps, from the modern classical to traditional Celtic harps, Renaissance and Medieval harps, as well as Asian harps such as the Koto or Guzheng. Zeynep Öykü is not only a performer of such harps but also a harp maker. With her husband Ali Öztürk she founded Anatolian Harps, Turkey's first and only harp making workshop. Her most recent project "Melancholy in the Renaissance" focuses on the contemplative music of John Dowland and uses the triple harp interpreting lute music of the time.
Cerys Hafana is a Welsh triple harpist and composer who mangles, mutates and transforms traditional music. They explore the creative possibilities of archival material, folk songs and psalms, found sounds and electronic processing, alongside original compositions.
Zeynep will be delivering Cerys's new travel triple harp in January, and they decided it would be nice to mark the event with a concert.
