Our inspiration for the February concert is the popular BBC radio programme 'Friday Night is Music Night'. Light popular works are featured, with Doreen Carwithen's A Suffolk Suite joining Mendelssohn's overture The Hebrides and George Butterworth's The Banks of Green Willow.
Max Lamprecht is a former member of the orchestra and is currently a Masters student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He joins us to perform Walter Ross's Concerto for Double Bass - this is a rich and warm post-romantic work full of beautiful, haunting melodies. Frank Bridge's Dance Rhapsody and Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 complete tonight's line-up.
