The Oil Chickens are a Liverpool based Blues/R&B band and have been together for 15+ years. All members have been professional or semi professional musicians since their teenage years and have toured and recorded with numerous bands and artists.
The Oil Chickens are no regular 12 bar blues band. Their gigs crossover many styles of music and their set list includes some originals as well as a variety of arrangements of songs by artists such as Rory Gallagher, Johnny Guitar Watson, Robben Ford, Steely Dan, Terry Reid, Ray Charles, Little Feat etc.
John Lewis on guitar and vocals is a Left Handed Guitarist with a talent for the Blues and is well known on the Blues circuit having played and toured with the infamous Liverpool Band Supercharge in the 1990’s and then did 15 years with Connie Lush and Blues Shouter who toured extensively. John also did tours with Chuck Berry and a variety of other named artists. As well as the Oil Chickens, John still does occasional gigs with his Blues Trio John Lewis and the Voyagers in Germany and Europe.
Dave Goldberg on keyboards and vocals has been a professional touring musician since his teenage years and toured with Liverpool Express, The Merseybeats and Chuck Berry. He went on to form Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and toured extensively with them for 25 years. He is involved with lots of bands in the North West including Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin tributes.
Pete Hughes on bass guitar and vocals has also played in many bands over the years and has a particular liking for funky bass. Starting out in Liverpool with a Soul/R&B outfit ‘The Frontline Band’ and then subsequently doing regular sessions and gigs with other North West based bands..
Drummer Bob Hignett has played in many bands and in a variety of styles over the years. Initially playing in some pop bands in the 80’s, he then played with North West One (with John and Peter) a popular Jazz Funk band and several years with a Burnley based Jazz quartet. Bob is known in the area as he is a Parish Councillor and Borough Councillor for Lymm North and Thelwall.
