St Mary's annual Silent Film Extravaganza returns for the 10th year with a barnstorming screening of the original 'swords and sandals' epic, Ben-Hur, including the iconic chariot race. If you have seen Gladiator you need to see this!
Virtuoso Organist & Silent Film expert Donald Mackenzie will again create the accompaniment to the film with LIVE improvisation using our historic 1875 instrument for a fantastic evening of entertainment.
Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is a 1925 American silent epic adventure-drama film directed by Fred Niblo and written by June Mathis based on the hit 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by General Lew Wallace. Starring Ramon Novarro as the title character, the film is the first feature-length adaptation and second overall, following the 1907 silent short film, the title role was later played by Charlton Heston in the 1959 version.
