Event information

First performed at On The Hill in South Devon in May 2023 and here at Ashburton Arts Centre in September 2023. Following those sold out shows and by popular demand, we're delighted to present, for the final performance:

Walking, Falling, Getting Up …Again…
A devised performance by professional and non-professional actors from South Devon that looks at the causes of overt and covert depression in men and how the consequences of shame and grandiosity often contribute to addiction, suicide, difficulties relating, violence and war.

Walking, Falling, Getting Up …Again… examines how this under-explored mental health epidemic affects everyone and asks, can we be brave enough to talk about it?

It's inspired by Terrence Real's seminal book I don't want to talk about it. Overcoming the secret legacy of Male Depression. You can expect a roller-coaster evening of unexpected real and fictional events, cliches, some laughter, some pain and some tender moments.

With some humour, improvisation, words, dancing, red noses, music, visual projections and more, Walking, Falling, Getting Up …Again… asks, What does it mean to be and become a man today?

The performance runs for 2 hours with an interval.

There will be a half hour post-show discussion where the director and the cast will take questions from the audience and talk about the issues raised in the play.

Previous audience comments:

"Raw, honest, painful to witness, but humorous too. This show is not to be missed!"

"one of the most powerful pieces of theatre I've experienced. I think every boy/man, and girl/woman should see this."

"a courageous, raw, touching, humourous and much needed opening up of what can be such hidden, buried territory for men"
