Event information
Whether combining the rhythmic and melodic timbres of wood, string, metal and audience claps or duetting with the atmospheric and elegiac echoed sounds of water dripping into a metal basin, Laurel Pardue & Bex Burch create space for improvisation and experimentalism which is inventive, unique and deeply pleasing.
Bex Burch is a composer, percussionist, producer and improviser who emphasises space, repetition and aspects of chaos. These themes characterise an ongoing approach she describes as “messy minimalism”. Burch’s critically acclaimed 2023 solo album, 'There is only love and fear' was released via Chicago’s International Anthem and named The Guardian's Contemporary Album of the Month. She runs the label and post-punk band, Vula Viel, and has collaborated with influential artists including Thomas Sekgura, Leafcutter John, Tamar Osborn, Peter Zummo, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Ben LaMar Gay, Dan Bitney and Macie Stewart.
Laurel Pardue is violinist from classical and folk backgrounds and has played with folk singer Sam Lee and group Mishaped Pearls, as well as contemporary groups Arnold Dreyblatt and Bang On A Can. Her improvisatory language is informed by both worlds and her time studying with Donal Fox and John Harbison.
Caper, an independent family bookshop and gift shop, will be open to browse from 7pm. There will also be a bar. Caper is wheelchair accessible.
