Steve Day writes: “Steve Buckley is one of the finest alto sax players in Europe. He has played globally with an astonishing array of topflight jazz names on both sides of the Atlantic and in Europe, won BBC Jazz Awards, worked at the National Theatre in a number of productions and gathered plaudits aplenty — check him out! Tonight's concert is the first time Steve has played at the Ashburton Arts Centre. The Sam Richard Trio last played Ashburton in the Summer of 2024 playing rare Thelonious Monk compositions, some of which will be in Evidence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qweSlfP6BtI ;-) tonight. They take risks; individually they're unlike any other jazz trio based in Devon. There's an encyclopaedic understanding of jazz styles here, with a strong preference to play 'out' in the margins. This promises to be serious fun, come and enjoy. (No AI used in this overview.)”
