State of the Union = Boo Hewerdine and Brooks Williams.
Individually, they are mighty writers and performers. When they team up together they create a magical, stripped back and enthralling musical atmosphere with two guitars and two voices. Their shows are consistently brilliant, equal parts emotive and entertaining - and they're back on he road for a few select appearances, including a return to Brighton, with a new album 'Paper Tigers'.
Boo Hewerdine is the chap who is a quiet, crucial element of Eddi Reader's Band, writing so many songs Eddi has recorded. His repertoire stretches back to The Bible (that included Neill and Callum MacColl), solo albums and collaborations, writing with and for Chris Difford, Kris Drever, Sia and kd lang.
Brooks Williams is an Americana singer-songwriter-guitarist based in the UK, about to celebrate 30 years touring and recording with tours in both the USA and the UK, as well as collaborations with Rab Noakes, Sloan Wainwright, Hans Theessink, Dan Walsh and Aaron Catlow.

The two formed their collaboration in 2011 and created two albums in rapid succession, 'State of the Union' and 'Snake Oil', which received 4 star reviews. Occasional tours have taken them around the UK, Ireland, European forays, festivals and TV (they even popped up on The BBC 1 Andrew Marr Show) and a memorable terrace cred. gig at The Greys.

The songs State of the Union create are equal parts wit, whimsy and pathos. Both have an impeccable sense of rhythm and melodic beauty. Their sound is huge, two guitars and two voices exceeding the sum of the parts. They interweave melodies and harmonies, nimble picking and full-tilt chording. It’s rich and expertly executed. And both love the craft of writing.
It's a privilege to get this pair back - and it will be a guaranteed fabulous evening.
