Event information
Where is the Castle is delighted to welcome Lavinia and Alex back to Nottingham for the first time in years...
LAVINIA BLACKWALL is a classically trained singer, student of Earlie Music, and purveyor of the finest psychedelic folk-rock. Formerly collaborating with Alex (Rex) Neilson in the avant-noise-meets-trad-folk duo Directing Hand, and then in the much missed folk-rock band Trembling Bells, since 2020's "Muggington Lane End" LP, she has been performing her own songs with her all-star band, STILTON. Beloved of BBC 6 Music and the underground alike, it's great to bring her back to town for the first time since her appearance at the Royal Concert Hall's Sandy Denny tribute over ten years ago.
ALEX REX is the nom-du-rock of Alex Neilson, drummer of choice to folk-adjacent artists like Bonnie Prince Billy, Current 93, Shirley Collins, Alasdair Roberts etc, and restless collaborator/disrupter with Richard Youngs, David Keenan and countless others. After four albums as Alex Rex since 2021, he's now abandoning the kit and stepping forward to the front to perform songs of love, loss and loathing in support of his new album The National Trust.
To make our Glasgow-based visitors feel at home, CONNEXION MAN will open the show with their harmonisin', instrument swappin', B*g St*r reverin', soul barin' revue. Featuring members of Gold Sounds, Sweetbriar, St Joan, etc, etc, etc. Prepare to melt x
