Event information
Fed up with prospect of dodgy US Presidents? Ready for a more positive view of American culture? On Friday 7th February Bear Wires in association with the St Mary's Centre presents an American Music Night, including songs by great American writers and performers from the late 1920s through to the 1970s and beyond. Music will range from the blues and sentimental Great American Songbook, 50s and 60s rock 'n' roll, soul and pop to the great musicians of the 1970s and even the odd late 20th and 21st century ditty!
The evening will feature songs by (amongst others) Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, The Monkees, Otis Redding, Joni Mitchell, Elvis Presley, Bill Withers, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Neil Young, John Prine, Bruce Springsteen and Death Cab for Cutie. You'll know many of them but there may be a few that will be new to you.
These great songs will be covered by performances from some wonderful Cheshire musicians – CJD, The Black Firs and Bear Wires & Friends. Glyn Roberts of Bear Wires will introduce the evening also provide a solo spot. The Bear Wires CD will be on sale.
Doors open at 7:30pm and there will be an interval of approx 20-30 minutes. Beer and wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee will be available and a raffle will be held during the interval. After the event's (low) running costs are met all revenue will be contributed to two hospices, one of which will be the East Cheshire Hospice.
