Storytelling at the Feast of Fools breaks new storytelling ground as we welcome Dr Karin Lundengård, with “When the Water Turns Blue”
‘When The Water Turns Blue’ is an intriguing one-woman show about the warnings we send into the future. Storyteller and scientist Karin Lundengård explores how humanity has preserved information throughout the ages - family legends kept in journals, warnings carved into stones, oral storytelling that has restored tales lost on burnt papyrus, and ancient myths that have saved people from tsunamis. And in light of the growing dangers of nuclear waste on future generations, she asks “Can we build a story - a warning - that can last 10,000 years?”

Marion Leeper, Director, East Anglian Storytelling Festival writes:
“Karin Lundengård’s debut show in the UK, When the Water Turns Blue, is like nothing you will ever have seen before. It marries a totally new approach to storytelling with a deep immersion in traditional storytelling.
Myth and legend, science fact and personal story, in a memorably evoked physical landscape, are all infused with Karin’s impish delight in the wonders of story and of science as she brings home to us the beauties and the dangers of nuclear technology, its capacity for great benefit and great harm. She invites the audience to take part in a game that is at once fantastical, playful, deadly serious and devised to give us an insight into the nature of scientific informatics.”

Dr Karin Lundengård is that rare thing, a researcher in computational biology who happens to be an accomplished storyteller, with a repertoire ranging from personal memories, to old Viking myths and folklore, and weird tidbits from the deeper levels of Wikipedia.
She believes the first training a scientist should get is in the arts, because at its core, scientific research should be helping us to build pathways into new worlds we’d never imagined.

Come and see and hear for yourselves this brilliant new voice in international storytelling.
