Event information

The combination of Rachel Walker & Aaron Jones sees two of Scotland's biggest talents join forces to create beautiful and mesmerising music steeped in the folk music tradition. We are delighted to welcome them to TwickFolk for one of their first performances in England as a duo.

Rachel is a singer, songwriter, arranger and educator based in the heart of Lochaber in the West Highlands. At home with both Gaelic and English, she has been a member of Scottish-Irish quartet Cruinn and Scottish super-group Skipinnish. Her songwriting has earned critical acclaim, with her "Fada Bhuam" chosen to represent Scotland at the Liet International Song Contest. Rachel also works as a lecturer in music at West Highland College UHI, where she is course leader of the music department.

Aaron is a guitarist, cittern player and singer based in the Scottish borders and has toured with many of the biggest names in traditional music, including Kate Rusby, Téada, Battlefield Band, Steph Geremia, Tannahill Weavers, Siobhan Miller, Phil Cunningham, Michael McGoldrick and Emily Smith. He has appeared on more than 100 traditional albums, produced several critically acclaimed albums and contributed to music for TV. He is also a member legendary two-time Folk Band of the Year winners Old Blind Dogs.

Rachel and Aaron first worked together on Rachel’s award-winning 2021 album Gaol (Love). Since then, they have released two albums as a duo, toured in Scotland and continental Europe and performed at festivals including Glasgow's Celtic Connections.

Their first album, Despite The Wind And Rain (2022), is a collection of spellbinding new songs that tell the tales of amazing women in Scottish history. Sung in Gaelic and English, the songs cover topics including scientific discovery, emancipation and women's rights.

Amongst The Wild Rowans, released in November 2024, sees the duo celebrate their roots with a collection of their favourite traditional songs including "Bonny Light Horseman", "I Am A Youth", "When First I Went To Caledonia" and "Jimmy Mo Mhile Stor". Again, Rachel and Aaron perform in both Gaelic and English, and there are guest appearances from Duncan Lyall on Moog and double bass, Alice Allen on cello and Nathon Jones on resonator guitar.
