On Sunday February 23rd Richard and Anna of The Village Butty Band (formerly 'The Relatives') come to London and Jamboree for one night only, performing songs from their debut album 'Increasing The Overall Jollity of The Nation', with support from the ace Art Terry and the Black Bohemians playing their delirious brand of arthouse funk.
Expect a night of riotous fun and hilarious songwriting in aid of London's cherished arts radio station, Resonance 104.4FM.
Headliners Richard and Anna of the The Village Butty Band have played some fantastic shows at Jamboree in their previous incarnation as The Relatives. Expect more of their witty lyrical folk magic tonight as they celebrate their debut LP.
In support, Art Terry and the Black Bohemians play their own unique and delirious brand of arthouse funk. Art’s songs explore Black politics, sexuality and religion through a lyrical fusion [gumbo] of African American folklore and hauntological funk. A singer and pianist, Art underpins deeply personal lyrics with dense melodic textures to create conceptual Black music. Brought up in the gospel tradition, he evokes the sacred figure of the robed and commanding preacher alongside the profane swagger and bravado of the street-hustling savant in his live performances, which are both theatrical and compelling.
