Love Thy Neighbour and terrace cred. are delighted to team up to present the self-crowned ‘Queen of Oklahoma’ Carter Sampson, touring the UK and calling back into the most intimate surroundings of a favourite little venue, The Greys, for as third date, this time with her full band, which incudes triple-nominated AMAUK Musician Of The Year guitarist Joe Coombs and Brighton's very own Scott Warman on bass.
Born and raised in the central state, Sampson writes relatable and honest songs about family, love, life and historical characters. Blessed by a musical family legacy that includes the great Roy Orbison, with a lilting twang that reflects her roots and adds an edge to her top rate songwriting, Carter's international touring attracts much acclaim.
‘I really love playing in the UK. I joke about it a lot but American audiences are generally loud and don’t listen very well – English audiences are so quiet and kind.’
Carter won first place in the Chris Austin Songwriting contest at Merlefest, NC, and has performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest and the Lincoln Center in NYC as a top finalist in their respective songwriting contests.
Carter is also the founder and director of The Rock and Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a non-profit organisation set up in Oklahoma that empowers girls, women and non-binary folks through music education. Quite some powerful and rewarding project.
Carter's sixth album 'Gold' spent many months on the Americana Music Charts and her seventh, her first solo live recording, from an Oklahoma City date in november, is released and on sale on the night.
