Event information
Join Alma for the launch of their first single Magpie, featuring full band! The night will be opened by the wonderful Glasgow-based singer songwriter Nicky Murray.
Alma is a new trio comprising of three independent singer-songwriters, Anna Cassidy, Marina Rolink and Ellyn Oliver who have come together over their love of lush harmony and considered songwriting.
Anna and Ellyn first met in 2020 competing at the Danny Kyle Open Stage, and more recently in 2024 a friendship between the three has blossomed though the Glasgow songwriting community. All three songwriters who are well-seasoned in performing around Scotland have now come together over the last few months to write original material which they are now ready to share with live audiences. Taking inspiration from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling and The Staves, the trio seek to create songs that are warm, honest, and thoughtful. This is all reflected in the root origin of their name, ‘Alma’, which means soul, heart and spirit.
Scottish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nicky Murray’s evocative lyrics, raspy vocals and deft fingerpicking create a spellbinding lyricism. His sincerity and authenticity shine through, allowing him to connect with listeners immediately. Nicky began to make a name for himself in 2014 following the release of his debut album 'Plenty More Weeping’ which launched his musical career and led him to tour and collaborate with a wide array of top artists over the next four years. These include Martin Stephenson, JJ Gilmour, Elephant Sessions, Kathryn Joseph, Peatbog Faeries, Dave Sharp, Brittany & Natalie Haas, and Duncan Chisholm among others. In May 2024 Nicky released his second full-length album 'How Long', a fully analog record featuring a wondrous band.
