Event information
Jo writes quirky, intimate and close hitting songs, using her own personal life experience to inform the subject matter and content of her music. Delivered with humour and honesty, she draws you in. Jo's songs are heartfelt anthems to life.
Jo Hook's first album, Inside Out, released in 2000, provided an early insight into the singer-songwriter's love for melding different styles within a single song. This was followed in 2005 by Settle Down which she recorded as the lead singer and writer for the Folk-Indie influenced band "Hook". Eight years later, she collaborated with Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan and Penguin Café Orchestra) for Silence Surrounds Me, described by For Folk's Sake as "eleven tracks of lush folk-pop".
As a performer, Jo is wonderfully self-deprecating, and very funny. She is just as at home performing in Bavaria wearing full Lederhosen, Paris in a mini skirt, London in her grandfather's jacket (too big) and at a kombucha and mead bar in Santa Fe in cowboy boots.
Shiny Disposable Things, was released on June 29th 2024 and is Jo's fourth album, which she considers her most personal work yet. Over the course of her musical career, Jo has collaborated with many musicians, arrangers and producers exploring different styles and genres of music. This album is the first where Jo has written, arranged, and produced, proving herself yet again as a musician and songwriter to note.
