Event information
Are you interested in exploring the history of your town, village, house, or area? This short five-session series is aimed at people who want to embark on their own research, but who aren’t quite sure where to start – or who have perhaps already made the plunge but want a bit more historical background or guidance.
No aspects of local history are entirely self-contained, and the series is intended to provide a broad overview of local history themes and approaches and of where to look next – although sessions can also be booked separately. Each session will include three short (40-minute) illustrated talks on particular topics, with plenty of time for questions and discussion, and we hope to have a few examples of relevant documents on show.
10.00-10.10: welcome and coffee
10.10-10.50: Religious life: the Established Church - Mark Page
10.50-11.30: Religious life: Nonconformity - Mark Page
11.30-11.50: coffee
11.50-12.30: Churches and other religious buildings - Simon Townley
12.30: discussion and questions
Speakers:
Simon Townley and Mark Page: Part of the research team for the Oxfordshire Victoria County History project (VCH), all with wide experience of researching and writing local history from prehistory to the present day.
Each session will run from 10am - 12:30pm. £10 for the individual talk or £40 for the series.
