Event information
Learn all the starter techniques to make your own leather goods at home and take home at least 3 items you make in the class.
You will learn:
Understanding which leather to use for a project
Different Leather tools explained
Traditional saddle stitch
Marking, punching and cutting out leather
Bevelling and finishing edges
Setting snap closures
Setting saddlers rivets
Using a strap cutter
Project 1 - Key holder
Your first project is a belt loop key holder. You will learn how to;
Cut an even thickness strap, mark out the shape using a simple pattern, trim your piece to size and install two of our British made traditional saddlers rivets. We’ll also show you how to bevel and polish the edges to a glossy finish.
Project 2- Card holder
Learn how to mark out and transfer more complex pattern pieces, stitch them together using traditional saddlers stitch (including how to use stitching irons to create perfectly even stitches), and take your burnishing to another level for a super shiny finish.
Project 3- Braided bracelet
Learn a braid often used for decorative straps and jewellery where the ends remain uncut - also learn how to install a snap closure.
All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
About the Tutors
Our lead instructor Aimee is a qualified teacher and specialises in the quirky side of things, loving both colour and classic design.
She is also a keen greenwood worker and can often be found spoon whittling in sunny spots in the Cotswolds countryside.
Supporting Aimee is Pete - A great teacher for students wanting to learn more about dyeing and stamping, using computers for pattern design and setting up equipment such as laser engravers and 3d printers and how to use them.
This session will run from 10:15am to 4:15pm and includes lunch.
Please note this event must meet our minimum number requirements in order to run. If we do not meet this requirement you will be notified at least a week prior to the start of the course and issued with a full refund including the booking fee.
