Event information
We are bringing Bach's passiontide masterpeice to the glorious setting of Halifax Minster for the first time in our 207 year history.
The passion is a dramatic retelling of the crucifixion of Christ, portraying sorrow, hope, and redemption in a highly emotional narrative. The music carries powerful feelings, bringing the story to life in a way that resonates deeply with listeners.
This magnificent work, for double choir and orchestra, is not often heard in English. We will sing a modern English translation which is easy to understand. It has been created by Yorkshire musicians John Longstaff, who will play the organ, and Andrew Greenan who will sing the part of Jesus.
Performed on the eve of Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week, this beautiful music, featuring poignant chorales, glorious solos and exciting choruses, will bring the passion narrative to life.
This concert continues our successful collaboration with Ipswich Choral Society.
