Event information

The John Hackett Band embodies the spirit of progressive rock. From John’s pastoral flute textures, through the funky interplay between drummer Duncan Parsons and bassist Jeremy Richardson to the intricacies of Nick Fletcher’s lead guitar the group embrace pop, rock, jazz, classical, funk and all stops in-between, from the tenderest of ballads to hair-raising instrumental workouts!

John Hackett has been a much-loved and admired figure in the progressive rock scene since the mid-70’s; best-known for his flute work with his brother, former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett on albums such as Voyage of The Acolyte, Sketches of Satie and Please Don’t Touch.

“Nick Fletcher is probably the best jazz rock guitarist in the country. His fluency is astounding, plus he possesses a first rate classical guitar technique to boot! I consider Nick Fletcher to be an absolute star” Steve Hackett

“The band have never sounded better, and they are musically as tight as a drum skin at present.”
David Edwards, The Progressive Aspect – March 2024

++++++++++++

Ms Amy Birks is an award-winning English singer, songwriter, and musician renowned for her evocative blend of chamber pop and progressive influences. She first gained prominence as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the Beatrix Players, whose debut album, Magnified, was released in 2017. Following the group’s disbandment, Birks embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut album, All That I Am & All That I Was, in 2020. Her sophomore album, In Our Souls, released in 2022, draws inspiration from literary figures like the Brontë sisters, reflecting her deep appreciation for literature. After a hiatus following their 2017 debut, Magnified, Beatrix Players reformed with Birks at the helm with the critically acclaimed Living & Alive, released on September 22, 2023. Drawing comparisons to artists such as Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull, Amy takes to the stage with two of her Beatrix Players’ bandmates, John Hackett & Matthew Lumb, to perform an intimate set from her back catalogue.
