“A forgotten, inspiring gem” said Wes Anderson of Melody. It was Alan Parker’s debut screenplay and his first collaboration with producer David Puttnam, based on their childhoods in North London. Two boys from different backgrounds, Daniel and Ornshaw (Mark Lester and Jack Wild of Oliver fame) become friends. However, Daniel falls in love with classmate Melody and they decide to marry, despite the bewildered objections of all concerned. This is an endlessly joyful, funny story of puppy love (inspiration for Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom) with perhaps the most anarchically hilarious ending of any British film ever.
