Event information
The artist Peter Stiles will tell the fascinating and somewhat secret story of Marsland Valley, which lies on the coastal border between Devon and N. Cornwall, ahead of a major new exhibition in Barnstaple. From the visits by members of the Bloomsbury Group including Dora Carrington who painted Mrs Box, to Benjamin Britten, Ronald Duncan, James Ravilious and Gillian Ayres the valley has inspired wonderful art and literature, including recently unearthed letters from the 1st WW from a local woman to her fiancé serving in Palestine. The letters, stories and paintings will soon be available in a short publication, so Bude Lit Fest is delighted to invite you to this fascinating and entertaining sneak preview...
Peter Stiles is an artist and curator with extensive experience across the arts. He moved to Welcombe after leaving the Slade in 1980 and is currently curating a show about Marsland Valley which will open at Barnstaple Museum in May www.peterstiles.co.uk
