Event information

Pete Morton is a folk singer-songwriter with a wealth of great songs and a remarkable singing voice. He's a compelling and energetic performer whose songs mix humour, politics, love and social comment while wrapping their way around the folk tradition. Songs like 'Another Train' and 'When we sing together' have become folk club standards and his performances are a joy.

Pete is always a popular guest at the Cutty Wren, and we are delighted that on this occasion he is bringing his acclaimed show "The Ghost of a Sailor Talking Blues". The ghost is a 17th century sailor who died in a shipwreck. He now spends eternity in a harbour pub influencing the patrons with silliness, satire and song. His story gives Pete a perfect excuse to entertain the audience with a freewheeling unruly mix of comedy and storytelling, interspersed with popular singalong chorus from the last 400 years!

"A happy mixture of music hall, pantomime, standup comedy, rowdy back room folk clubs, with moments of utter beauty and breathtaking audacity, it is a unique experience. It’s full of laughter, singalongs, history, poetry, philosophy and life affirming fun. It’s one of the very best things I’ve ever seen. The audience were with him from the start, and their laughing, singing, clapping and foot stamping filled the hall. It was a mesmerising performance, a non stop cavalcade of vignettes and quips. I was left in awe of Pete’s command of the huge amount of material the show contains, just one person with a guitar and a voice, keeping the carnival vibrantly alive for us all." PETE KENNY
