Cherry Burton Arts are preparing for the return of HENRY PRIESTMAN who will take to the stage at THE VILLAGE HALL, CHERRY BURTON, near Beverley on SATURDAY 14 JUNE at 8pm.
Henry Priestman’s gigs are few and far between these days, and his May Merseyside gig to celebrate his 70th birthday sold out in under 24 hours, so he’s decided to add on another special concert near Beverley, in East Yorkshire, his birthplace.
He will be joined by Les Glover, plus his East Yorkshire pals The Bay Horsemen. The audience can expect a show full of Henry’s best known songs, not only from his more recent ‘solo years,’ but no doubt some gems from his ‘band collection’ which include Yachts, It’s Immaterial and The Christians!
Cherry Burton Arts organiser Martin Peirson added “We are pleased to have been chosen for the ‘East Yorkshire Birthday Bash’ to celebrate Henry’s 70th- it’s great to have him back! His performances are always a treat for audiences, - great music, lots of fun, slight chaos, and the element of surprise. Now Henry is settled in Wales, it’s a rare treat to catch him around here-we expect this to be very popular.”
Henry was born and raised near Hull, attending Hull Art College before moving to Liverpool, where music overtook his art work. This is a man who’s seen the music world explode from punk (his band Yachts supported the Sex Pistols in ’77, and The Who on European Tour in ‘79) via pop (three million albums with The Christians; a top five single for Mark Owen) through to the digital age (soundtracks for James Bond/Xbox, BBC’s Wildlife on One, Natural World), writing/production duties with the likes of singer/songwriters Amy Wadge, Lotte Mullan and 10cc’s Graham Gouldman (3 co-writes with Graham on his latest “Love and Work” album) and still has something worth singing about.
