Event information
Hatful of Rain have attracted an affectionate following with their fusion of folk and Americana sounds. Known for their emotive storytelling, warm performances and great harmonies – not to mention their own unique genre – “melonjolly” (cheerful tunes with miserable lyrical content), the band have been praised for their ability to blend traditional forms of old time and bluegrass music to their own ends. The band's appearance at TwickFolk to coincides with the release of their new album, which draws on five years of writing and experimenting, with two new member, Scott and Max, joining original members Phil and Chloe.
The new album will feature 11 new original tracks composed by the band, many rooted in the band’s traditional signature folk and Americana style, and others pushing in a rockier direction featuring Scott’s drums and Matt’s electric guitar twang. With its rich acoustic guitar work, intricate harmonies and a mix of traditional and contemporary influences, the release represents another evolution from their earlier albums, which garnered critical acclaim, sessions with Bob Harris and many plays by Mike Harding and Mark Ratcliffe on the Radio 2 Folk Shows.
