Event information
A 90-minute generative workshop in which participants will learn story structure, examine how the beach can serve as a successful backdrop for plots in many genres, and produce a number of original scenes for their own stories.
Madeline Dyer is a bestselling YA author and Lambda Literary Award Finalist, drawn to dark and twisty stories. She writes to understand strangeness and pain and how these operate around ideas of beauty and monstrosity. She often uses her stories to explore loneliness and isolation, struggles with identity and illness, and the impacts of dysfunctional families.
Her women’s fiction, romances, and “up-lit” (uplifting literature) are published under her pen name of Elin Annalise; these often examine unconventional family dynamics, LGBTQIA+ relationships (with an emphasis on ace rep), and chronic and mental illness in contemporary settings.
Madeline’s academic work focuses around Gothic novels from the nineteenth century to the present day and representations of prehistoric people in literature.
