Event information
Mickey Newbury was the greatest Nashville songwriter most people have never heard of. His numerous hit songs, including An American Trilogy, 33rd of August, Just Dropped In, Heaven Help The Child and San Francisco Mabel Joy were sung by Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Tom Jones and a host more. Kris Kristofferson said of him: "Mickey played the most important role of any single songwriter in my life. Mickey was a true songwriter and really good at it. I feel real grateful to have known him."
We have the honour of hosting three great musicians and singers, each of which holds Mickey's music in the highest regard. Expect an afternoon of Mickey's songs, as well as some songs inspired by Mickey's writing.
"The 10 albums Newbury released from 1969-81 constitute one of the most remarkable catalogs of music any American artist has assembled in this century, a body of work for which he deserves to be remembered and revered."
No Depression
Michael Weston King
"Michael Weston King has a voice part Nashville balladeer and part Alt Country hero... a cross between Nick Cave and Rodney Crowell."
The Independent
Dan Raza
"Soulful, passionate, full of insight; with melodies to die for and lyrics as good as you'll find anywhere,"
RnR magazine
Michael J Sheehy
"A sublime collection of songs, understated and rich in emotional resonance."
