Event information
The concert will feature Carmina’s unique and celebrated presentation of Celtic-inspired themes and jazz improvisation, woven together in powerful original songs, together with their own – at times surprising – arrangements of carefully-chosen covers.
“Glorious… gorgeously haunting” Time Out
“Powerful and spiritually uplifting” The Guardian
Carmina began in Bristol in the 1990s; since then the band has toured internationally and recorded 6 albums, two of which were produced by the highly-respected Irish musician Donal Lunny.
Pippa Marland – vocals, saxes
Rob King – guitar, bodhran
Paul Bradley – guitars, vocals
Carmina will be joined by special Irish guest Diarmaid Moynihan on Irish uilleann pipes and whistles. The concert will also be presenting new compositions for their forthcoming album, Late Light, which also features Diarmaid’s playing. You can hear some of their performances with Diarmaid via carmina.co.uk and in the video below.
Carmina has been playing and recording with Diarmaid for almost its entire existence, mostly in Ireland and Europe. This is a rare appearance for him with Carmina in the UK. Diarmaid is widely acknowledged as one of Ireland’s foremost uilleann pipers and composers. He has a long and distinguished recording, performing, and composing career, with many world renowned traditional music stars including Donal Lunny, Flook, Liam O’ Maonlai and Alain Stivell. He has also collaborated with a number of classical concert orchestras and has guested on many Carmina recordings, including their second award-winning album My Crescent City, with Donal Lunny as producer.
