Harry Dowell is an exceptional saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Steeped in the jazz tradition, Harry is heavily influenced by post-bop and contemporary jazz, including artists such as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel. His improvisational style balances thoughtful melodic creativity with ambitious spontaneity. Harry has played across the country, recently coming off a successful tour with Lack of Afro.
Harry and his top-notch band will be exploring the titanic legacy of John Coltrane through his music, with a focus on his compositions from albums such as Blue Train, Giant Steps, and A Love Supreme. You can also expect choice standards such as All or Nothing At All and In a Sentimental Mood - as performed with Duke Ellington. John Coltrane was one of the 20th century's greatest musical pioneers, and a master of the saxophone who shaped the direction of contemporary jazz.
“You can hear [Coltrane's influence] in the intensity he brings to his playing, and also in the sheer complexity of his melodic lines, which nonetheless convey the core message and soul of the music” - Liquid Spirit Jazz Club
