Event information

A two-for-one event with two authors!

THE GRASS WIDOW: A quest for petty revenge becomes a search for the truth about a murder.
THE MATCHMAKERS: Is a tragic honeymoon accident all it seems? The victim’s
sister has her doubts.
BECAUSE YOU WERE THERE A teacher, her pupil, and a very British scandal
RUBY TUESDAYS: ‘Ruby Tuesdays’ is a Jazz café with a difference, where music and love combine to overcome mental trauma.

VANESSA EDWARDS grew up in Birmingham and spent most of her spare time riding in Worcestershire (and writing pony stories). After reading Philosophy (and writing poetry) at UCL, she qualified as a solicitor and practised as a lawyer and legal translator in London, Brussels and Luxembourg (while writing legal articles and a turgid tome). She took early retirement from the law and turned to her lifelong dream of writing crime fiction. THE GRASS WIDOW, a suspenseful tale of
adultery, murder and intrigue in a domestic setting, is her debut novel. Her second, THE MATCHMAKERS, is best summed up in the words of a 5* reviewer: ‘Edwards weds true crime and London noir in a contemporary spin on a historic murder case …With a dazzling cast of characters and a wine list to match, she reels the reader in, then takes you by surprise.’

JOAN LEWIS went to school in Newcastle, and spent thirty years sharing some of the best stories in the world with young children, as both a teacher and headteacher. A keen advocate of the Open University, she gained a Master’s in Education in 1991. She now lives in a remote and beautiful part of Southern France, where she enjoys walking, boating, reading and writing novels, and blogging about it all. BECAUSE YOU WERE THERE is her powerful first novel about the treatment of Windrush immigrants in Britain, complicity, and what it really means to belong somewhere. In RUBY TUESDAYS, we follow Eva as she searches for her lost son Sam, and ask why so many young people in Britain today, are suffering from mental trauma. Joan is currently working on a third novel about the ‘Scramble for Africa,’ and its repercussions for one particular extended family. This is largely a romance, with reflections on belonging and national identity.
