The John Bennett Big Band is a 15 piece jazz ensemble. The music composed by John is structured , whilst also allowing interplay between the musicians. The band was born out of an early realisation that as a composer / trombonist , having his own band was the only way he could get his music performed to his own satisfaction. He does not see it as a big band as such rather a large jazz ensemble partly inspired by early New Orleans jazz King Oliver , Armstrong the later Gil Evans , Miles Davis and Mingus. to name but a few. To John it is always a work in progress but the performance is the thing.
