The Getz Gilberto album of 1963 has gone down in the annals of Jazz history as a seminal recording bringing together three giants of their genre; Stan Getz’s lyrical saxophone playing, Carlos Jobim’s haunting compositions and Joao Gilberto’s bossa nova guitar playing. Stealing the show was Gilberto’s wife, Astrud, whose soft lyrical performances are perfectly capture by Brighton based singer Ela Southgate. The band features London based, Stan Getz aficionado James Allsopp (tenor sax) together with Chris Coull (flugelhorn) and rhythm section led by Matt Wall (guitar) with Joss Peach (piano), Dan Sheppard (bass) and Angus Bishop (drums).
