Event information

Jim Eldon sings and plays the fiddle.Lynette Eldon, his wife, is a champion clog dancer. Jim performs English traditional folk songs and fiddle tunes. Many of Jim’s songs and tunes are local to Hull and East Yorkshire – songs and tunes he learnt from family, from neighbours and from people he has met through actively going out and seeking old songs and tunes that have been passed on by word of mouth. For thirty years or more, Jim played for a living on board the Bridlington pleasure boats Yorkshire Belle and Flamborian. That was a seven days a week commitment from April to October, playing without amplification out on deck up to seven trips a day. It was fun and it was tiring. It was a hand to mouth existence. The welcome arrival of an old age pension ended that job at the end of the 2012 season. The music continues.

The Fraser Sisters, Jo Freya and Fi Fraser, were once described as “better than a bus”, when a print over-run removed the rest of the sentence, “load of musicians”. It’s a fitting description, as they are multi-instrumentalists and singers with a history of performing that spans the best part of 50 years. The music is diverse and captivating, often delivered in what appears to be a deceptively easy way – eg, acapella, accompanied, driving tunes – but frankly they are worth seeing for the banter alone. Expect great music with tales of their experiences as musicians, sisters, daughter and niece and from far and wide.
You will have seen them individually or collectively with Blowzabella, Narthen, Polkaworks, Sir Michael Morpurgo, the Old Swan Band and more, and Jo is now the artistic director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble.
