Event information
After launching himself in summer 2024 with debut single 'I Found Love', Chas Leman has steadily built a catalogue of heartfelt, emotionally and politically charged singles which are now included in his debut album 'Wish The Clock Would Go Back'.
An ode to classic songwriting, the album shows a maturity and depth some artists only find deep into their careers. Echoes of early David Bowie, the more contemplative work of Damon Albarn, the croon of Richard Hawley, and the grit and attitude of a young Paul Weller ring through the entire record. He presents his songs like open wounds, inviting the audience to go through a roller coaster of emotions with him, leaving people with smiles on their faces, but also with something to think about too.
His music spans genres, from searing heartbreak ballads through to short sharp punky numbers, via expansive psychedelic pieces, all bound together with tales and observations from his proud working class London upbringing. He is also backed by a highly accomplished live band who keep up with his relentless and boundless energy and completely buy into his unhinged yet loveable personality.
A larger than life character, with a musical heritage that can be traced back to the Victorian music halls, he maintains strong references to that past. Expect plenty of unpredictable comedic and theatrical moments throughout his live show, and let his authentic working class South London humour transport you to a bygone age, whilst never losing it's relevance.
His stage presence is warm, charming and engaging. No airs and graces. No bullshit. Just a man opening his heart out to everyone.
No two gigs are ever the same, but what you can expect from Chas is an honest man dedicated to his artistry and a commitment to entertain.
'..it’s impossible not to feel the weight of the lyrics, resonating deeply with anyone familiar with the grind of survival in tough times..'
