Event information

Samar Zeki and Majid Hedayat will be performing Classical Middle Eastern songs using drums and voice. Samar Zeki is a vocalist from Iraq, she is interested in singing Classical and folk Arabic genres from the Levant and Iraq.
Samar is in the process of completing MA Music degree at SOAS, University of London.

Majid Hedayat is an Iranian percussionist. He was trained to play Tombak in Iran since childhood. He played with various groups in Iran and the UK.

Nandita Mukherjee is a London-based British Bangladeshi Bengali singer and performer with special expertise in Rabindra Sangit (Tagore). She participated in numerous concerts in  Bangladesh, India, and the UK. Nandita learnt Bengali music from renowned musical experts in Dhaka, Kolkata, and London. Nandita just completed an MA in Music at SOAS, University of London.

Amith Dey is a singer and an instrumentalist.
Amith started experimenting with modern music and co created a Bengali experimental band called London DC. He has performed at many venues in London and around the UK. He will be accompanying Nandita on the keyboard.

Muwashshaḥ, (Arabic: “ode”), an Arabic poetic genre developed in Muslim Spain in the 11th and 12th centuries. From the 12th century onward, its use spread to North Africa and the Muslim Middle East.

Bengali Tagore Songs, are the songs of the Indian subcontinent, written and composed by the Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore, a prolific composer who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.
