The first release from the Merchant Ivory film making partnership launched the career of nineteen year old Felicity Kendall in her first film role in 1965. Through the years, until their final film together fifty years later, producer Ismail Merchant, director James Ivory, and screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala released some of the most popular, and influential, films of our times.
The Remains Of The Day, Howard’s End, Maurice and A Room With A View are perhaps the standouts and over the decades they also made the names of Hugh Grant, Helena Bonham Carter, Rupert Graves Julian Sands, Emma Thompson, Daniel Day-Lewis and more.
Included in this warts-and-all overview – and there were certainly one or two warts – is footage from more than fifty interviews, clips from the films, archival material and views from unheralded technicians as well as the familiar stars.
