Strange Cargo + Aptère at Jamboree

On Saturday October 18th we welcome the ace Strange Cargo and Aptère to Jamboree as part of the Bloomsbury Festival!

Strange Cargo puts an African background to a British experience.  Coming from the imagination of guitarist and singer Laurence Corns who was lucky enough to catch the tail end of Zimbabwean artists in London, touring with Chartwell Dutiro, Stella Chiweshe and The Bhundu Boys, the band are also influenced by the likes of The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays.

With bassist Tom Mason, drummer Mez Clough and guitarist Al Cherry, a motley crew who've worked with artists as diverse as Goldie, Van Morrison and Wet, Wet, Wet, they are always humorous, infectious, audacious and yet totally self-effacing at the same time. Truly a Strange Cargo! This special night at Jamboree sees the launch of their new EP and will feature a mystery give away! "Modern folk songs of love, nostalgia and whimsey woven through hypnotic grooves".

In support, Aptère is a duo unifying the cellist Lina Belaïd and accordionist Antoine Girard around a common passion for live and popular music, Jazz, Balkan or Musette, among others. The sounds of bowed strings and blown reeds blend and mingle on their musical playground. Sensitive compositions, adventurous improvisations, reveal rich texture ranges, melodic lyricism, haunting rhythms, oriental ornaments and bold harmonies.

Jamboree food option: Our ‘Zer’ kitchen is open from 5pm serving delicious Middle Eastern fusion food for you to enjoy a pre-gig meal/snack if you wish!
