Event information
Experience a captivating tapestry of litanies, madrigals and lamentations, showcasing some of the extraordinary writing of two of the Renaissance’s most famous composers, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) and Carlo Gesualdo (1566-1613).
The Gesualdo Six is a highly acclaimed British vocal consort. They comprise some of the UK’s finest consort singers, and the ensemble is known for its impeccable standard of performance. They perform widely across the UK and internationally. The group performs a broad-ranging repertoire, from the music of the medieval period through to contemporary compositions.
St. Michael's Parish Church, as it stands, was largely completed in 1540, although it's origins date back to it's consecration in 1242. The ecclesiastical masterpiece which resulted was much favoured as a place of worship by the Scottish monarchs, most notably Mary Queen of Scots who was born in Linlithgow Palace on December 8th 1542 and was baptised in St Michael’s Church.
This is an opportunity to experience choral music from the 16th century in an impressive setting appropriate to the period.
