Why do people write ghost stories? Is it to explain away the fear? To spread it?
Or do they write to reveal the ghosts inside them?
Shirley: A Ghost Story is a dark and intimate one-person play, inspired by the life of Shirley Jackson and the ghost stories of M.R. James.
Shirley has felt haunted her entire life. Haunted by the responsibilities of a ‘50s housewife, haunted by her husband stealing credit for her work, and haunted by a ghost story that’s been with her since childhood. But will the writing of a novel, spurred on by the talentless ambition of her academic spouse, finally release the horror that has been manifesting in her for a lifetime?
Written by Joshua King and performed by Jasmin Gleeson, Shirley: A Ghost Story is brought to you by Offie-nominated Moon Rabbit, a two-person team making one-person shows.
‘If you leave this play feeling anything other than touched and inspired, then you are probably not breathing’
