Event information
Sao Paulo’s Firefriend suggest that “For better results this record must be played at highest volume possible”. We welcome them at the Jericho Tavern for a night of neo-psychedelic head bobbing and experimental fuzz, throughout their UK tour as they make a stop between the Other Side psych weekender, and Glastonbury Psychfest.
If those words didn’t convince you enough, The Third Eye described them as “steeped in distortion, blending elements of shoegaze, post-punk, and experimental noise” and “a dense fusion of fuzzed-out guitar, deep basslines, and ethereal vocals that shift between intimacy and expansiveness”.
They have a record coming out this summer - aptly called FUZZ, in all capitals - and, just saying, Brazil is quite a trek from the British isles, so this may be a fairly unique chance to catch them.

They are joined by Flights of Helios, a space-rock/drone-folk ensemble from Oxford. They say “There’s shoegaze, space-rock and post-rock, which covers the elongated, reverb-heavy songs that ebb and flow. There’s folk-rock to cover the ukulele, violin, keyboard drones and pure vocals, and, lastly, garage rock as we love getting fast and fuzzed-up.” - and who are we to say otherwise?
It’s always a pleasure to catch them live, and for those of you who haven’t seen them before - first of all why? and second, come early!

Opening the night, Oxford's Maltese-Polish-British-Italian neo psych quartet Mystery Biscuit. Getting it out straight away, “Mystery Biscuit” has no hidden meaning - there is no mystery, there may be a biscuit somewhere but we’re not sure if it’s relevant. They promise “classic motorik rhythms with Sonic-Youth inspired dissonances, alongside obscure old-time radio samples and overwrought vocals drenched in cavernous reverb”. They have some new stuff too, or so we heard through the grapevine.
They were also called ”Disco Kraut” by Nightshift - come find out whatever that means!
