Author, essayist, spoken-word performer, artist, film star and London resident (1966-1974) William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) continues to exert a huge influence on underground culture. On this walk writer and researcher William Redwood, writer and publisher Jim Pennington (who visited Burroughs in his Duke Street apartment) and writer Antony Clayton will retrace the presence in London’s West End of the man who declared that “language is a virus from outer space.”
Antony Clayton is the author of a number of books including “Decadent London”, “Netherwood: Last Resort of Aleister Crowley” and most recently “Mansion of Gloom: the Unsettling Legacy of Poe’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ ”
An ethnographer of all things esoteric, William Redwood completed a PhD at the University of London; he still lives in the city, writing, wandering and wondering.
Jim Pennington is a publisher who lives in London, though would sometimes prefer to live in North Africa.
