Event information
A double bill of local artists for this exciting evening. Ned Swarbrick is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who came to our notice recently at a Black Swan Folk Club Open Mic evening. He gave us a very impressive set with his band this year at the Folk Weekend and now he shares the bill as a soloist for a club guest spot. He creates folk music rooted in his love for literature and storytelling. He’s inspired by the like of Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and John Martyn, with a fondness for non-standard tunings. Blending free-flowing fingerpicking and intimate vocals, he creates songs that are rich in texture and emotionally nuanced.
The Rattlers got together two years ago on a sunny afternoon in York also to play at the Black Swan Folk Weekend, and they’ve been playing ever since. Mainly they take pleasure in watching the young and the old dance down the street to their music, and their claim to fame is that Emma Thompson thought they were worth a fiver. Made up of a bouzouki, a fiddle and a double bass, their repertoire includes vibrant folk tunes from across the globe: whatever takes their fancy. They'll be playing a lively mixture of North and South American, Irish, English and Eastern European tunes.
