Event information
Deep-rooted in a lifetime love of traditional music, The Wilderness Yet continue to grow with the seasons as they explore the many branches of song from the British Isles. With their “simply exquisite” three-part harmonies (BBC R6 Music), and their “satisfyingly rich instrumentals” (The Living Tradition), they have gained a cult following since their debut album was released to critical acclaim in 2020.
Their latest studio album, What Holds The World Together, was played on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 6, as well as entering the Official Folk Albums Chart. Taking their name from a Gerard Manley Hopkins classic, the Sheffield-based trio fuse the clear, charismatic vocals of former BBC Young Folk Award finalist Rosie Hodgson with the fine, sensitive fiddling of Rowan Piggott and the deft guitar and flute playing of Philippe Barnes. Together, they entwine traditional material with their own “precisely observed, poetic, nature-centric songwriting” (Tykes Stirrings), drawing heavily on the connection between people and the environment. Expect to be swept away by a Wild Northeaster one moment, only to be charmed again by The Beauties of Autumn.
“Beautiful musicianship & singing” – Ruth Smith, RTÉ Radio 1
“Simply exquisite” – Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
