An evening of immersive, transcendent folk sounds
BUCK CURRAN
Buck Curran is an American singer-songwriter-guitarist, record producer, painter and guitar maker. August 29th will see the release of 'Far Driven Sun', Curran's 7th full length solo album. As half of the duo Arborea, he has released 5 albums of other-worldly psych folk, and has produced two tribute albums to guitar maestro Robbie Basho, one archival release 'Robbie Basho: 'Live in Forlì, Italy 1982', as well as two more recent tributes to Jack Rose and Steffen Basho-Junghans. Curran's songwriting is poetic and his rough-hewn voice and droning psych-folk melodies curl like smoke. His acoustic and electric guitar playing is characterized by the extensive use of low alternate tunings, slide, Ebow, reverb, manipulating string overtones and dynamics creating haunting voice-like timbres on the instrument. NPR, Pitchfork, Uncut, and Acoustic Guitar Magazine have all praised Curran’s singular, mystical style.
MAZOZMA
“With songs that drone in a haze of acoustic psychedelia, Mazozma (US/UK) incorporate outsider singer/songwriter troubadours and apocalyptic folk with the wooded landscapes of Western Massachusetts and seaside scenes of coastal Britain.”
Mazozma consists of Michael Turner, founder of the group, on vocals and acoustic six string guitar, James Bandenburg on acoustic 12 string guitar and harmonium player Osmin Solwin. Mazozma has three LPs out (the newest full length “Bathing In The Stone” on the Sophomore Lounge label in the US and two full length records on the esteemed Feeding Tube label in the US) as well as a slew of cassettes on various labels.
LINDEN POMEROY
Linden Pomeroy channels the American Primitive tradition through 6- and 12-string guitar and lap steel. Drawing comparisons to John Fahey, Pomeroy conjures spectral tones and deep river spirits with raw, intuitive power. Remien Vigilia released on Ramble Records in 2023, 2 follow up albums are imminent "Other Downlands" and "The Cat Sang Out" both themed around the South Downs.
