Join Adrian On The Brink

You are convivially invited to a Poetry Matinee at The Brink – Brincliffe House, 90 Osborne Rd, Sheffield S11 9BB.

Join us for an afternoon of poetic encahantment as Adrian G R Scott presents both new works and established favourites. ‘Where Do Dreams Come From?’ represents Adrian’s fifth poetry collection, encompassing themes ranging from introspective explorations and mythic motifs to reflections on personal journeys, including his 2023 visit to the Mid-Western United States and landmarks such as Wounded Knee and Yellowstone. The collection also offers tributes to Scott’s enduring appreciation for the Lakeland region and the influence of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Furthermore, it addresses contemporary global issues with poems on the current situations in the USA, Ukraine, the Holy Land, and includes a notable piece regarding the Welfare State titled “From the Cradle to the Grave.” The concluding section of the book contemplates the later stages of life, focusing on the profound beauty and enigma inherent in endings.

Poetry is often a medium that people shy away from thinking it will be too highbrow or so esoteric it will make them feel inadequate. Adrian Scott is not like that. He is often praised for the accessibility of his work. His delivery style is colloquial and engaging and he offers great commentaries and segways into the poems. He will also be reciting some pieces from previous collections – The Call of the Unwritten, Arriving In Magic and A Night Sea Journey. He will especially be offering a poem or two from A Sheffield Traipsing, his well-received poetry of place about his home city of Sheffield.

Adrian is also a Podcaster and has his The Anxious Poet’s Podcast in which he explores the themes of Poetry, Anxiety and Vulnerability. He has had many guests over the years like Sheffield poet Helen Mort, renowned wilderness writer Belden Lane, psychotherapist from Ireland Ray Tonge and Sheffield Mindfulness practitioner Fiona Watson. These can be found here.

He also cohosts a podcast called Grim Up North? with Sheffield author and commentator Matt Carr. They look at the culture, politics, arts, religion and economy of the North of England. They have had guests ranging from George Orwell’s son, Richard Blair, to Peter Flannery writer of our Friends in the North. It can be found here.

This will be an afternoon to remember in a lovely setting. There will be refreshments and cakes during the readings and Adrian’s books will be available for sale. Admission is free but we ask you to register for your place as space is limited and we want to make sure you all get cake!
