Event information

Primitive Act - "The feeling is to keep it wide open, thoroughly eclectic, free but themed, improvised and completely familiar. Strong and distinctive moods and atmospheres. Epic and startlingly wild jungle numbers as well as a cod raga and hip hop grooves to nowhere, on the edge. Miles style super funk, a transparent, ghostly walk among spirits, a sophisticated silence always present, exotic tropicalia and imagined rituals, illuminated titles, words full of ideas. I awoke from a forgettable dream and said the words ‘tenuous realms’. Beautiful, rainy day”

Carolyn Hume - keyboards; Paul May - drum kit; Duke Garwood - bass guitar / woodwinds/ shakers; Jamie Harris - percussion / vocals

Carolyn Hume - Appearing on many recordings and with her long time musical partner, Paul May on drums. Carolyn Hume has released ten albums since 2000 on ‘Leo Records’; six collaborations with Paul May and two solo albums featuring compositions for cello and voice. She has performed in Europe and the UK and also provided music for short films, including work by Sub Gravity Films, Pan MacMillan and ‘Elegy Japan’ with photographer Darron Davies. Her CV includes work with Oliver Coates, Sonia Hammond, Judie Tzuke, Patrick Dawes, Neil May, Russell Webb and John McGeoch. She has released on Leo Records, Forwind and The 52nd. Hume is a member of Fourth Page, alongside Paul May and Charlie Beresford.

Paul May - A drummer and percussionist from London. Currently playing in psych-trance outfit Woven Entity, May has played in several mythical constellations within the London improvised music realm including Fourth Page (with Carolyn Hume and Pete Marsh), Ladywoodsman (with long-term ally Duke Garwood), Little Wet Horse (also featuring Garwood and Daniel Beban of Orchestra of Spheres) and Alexander Tucker’s Decomposed Orchestra.

Duke Garwood - Garwood’s first paid musical job was back in the late 1980s, playing guitar on The Orb's seminal “Perpetual Dawn” (from the debut album co-produced by Youth). Nearly twenty years and many musical wanderings later, Duke Garwood is about to release an album on Youth's new label Butterfly Recordings. You could say that some sort of cycle is completed.

Garwood’s 1st album “Holy Week” came out to great critical acclaim last year. Q magazine described it as “making Will Oldham sound like Engelbert Humperdinck!” His follow up “Emerald Palace” was recorded in a log cabin on the wooded slopes of Box Hill over 2 scorching days and nights in the mid-summer of 2005. Garwood and his longtime drummer/percussionist-Paul May laid down some 40 tracks of which 18 were finally chosen for his new release.

In February 2013, Ipecac and Heavenly announced the signing of Duke Garwood & Mark Lanegan. Lanegan described Garwood as "one of his all time favorite artists" and working with him as "one of the best experiences of his recording life". Their debut collaboration album 'Black Pudding' was released in May 2013.

Garwood has toured and recorded with many artists including Archie Bronson Outfit, Seasick Steve, Josh T. Pearson, Richard Bishop, Wooden Wand, Wire, Alexander Tucker, The Gutter Twins, Kurt Vile and Mark Lanegan.

Jamie Harris - Jamie attended the Jazz diploma course in Chichester as a singer, which was were he met the saxophonist Marcus Cummins who introduced him to the music of Trevor Watts. In 1999 Harris was given the opportunity to organise a music group made up of young musicians for a concert to be musically directed by Watts .

This group continued to rehearse after that concert and it was during this first rehearsal with no drummer in attendance that Watts handed Harris a drum and asked him to bang it. The group eventually became “Trevor Watts and the Celebration Band”, where Harris served as percussionist. The Celebration Band toured USA / Canada as well as playing several concerts in the UK and Europe.

In 2003 Watts and Harris began performing as a duo, taking this project to Mongolia, USA/Canada, Mexico, The Dominican Republic and Brazil among other locations. Between 2007 and 2019 Watts and Harris took a break. During this period Harris sang ,played guitar and wrote songs for the band “Harris Attack” as well as performing in a duo with bass guitarist Roger Carey. From 2014 until 2021 he sang and played percussion with the band Afrit Nebula.

In 2019, after performing together at Trevor Watts 80th birthday party , an event organised by pianist and long time Watts collaborator Veryan Weston, Harris and Watts decided to resume duo activities. In July 2021, Watts / Weston and Harris formed the group “Eternal Triangle”. Who have since played concerts all over the Uk and EU performing Trevor’s compositions.

“Jamie vibrates, at the same time as our eardrums, with a virtuosity to make the most experienced Cuban congeros pale! “ - Alain Fleche , French journalist
