Get a chance to watch cult classic 'Withnail & I' at Loks Bar and Kitchen in Newlands, Glasgow Southside. This much loved comedy classic follows the challenging impoverishment of two out of work actors living together in 1960's London. Out of booze adventures follow, with rain, legumes and the finest wines available to man. There will be an bar open in the screening and an intermission halfway through to let folk buy more refreshments and run to the loo.
This screening is being presented as part of our 'Doctors On Screen' season of screenings. This first screening, starring Eighth Doctor Paul McGann and unofficial 'Shalka' Doctor Richard E Grant, showcases the brilliant actors who have played the Doctor in Doctor Who at their best. Paul McGann's brief appearance as the Eighth Doctor in 1996's TV movie had a huge impact, with McGann going on to be the most prolific audio Doctor, appearing in Doctor Who Big Finish audios for over 20 years to the present. Richard E Grant has appeared in Doctor Who media multiple times, two times as a 'Doctor', at one time the 'official' Ninth Doctor before being usurped by the 2005 RTD revival, which replaced him with Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor.
We aim to show a variety of films over the coming months and years, showcasing the variety of screen appearances from the brilliant actors who have played the Doctors, previously testing the waters with our screening of 'Venus' starring Jodie Whittaker. In the future we may well show John Hurt in 'Alien', David Tennant in 'What We Did on Our Holidays, Christopher Eccleston in 'Shallow Grave', Tom Baker in 'Nicholas and Alexandra' and many more. Please let us know what films featuring actors who have played the Doctor you would like to see.
We are continuing our long partnership with brilliant local venue Loks Bar and Kitchen in Glasgow's Southside, with their fantastic venue with a full cinema set up and an in-built bar. Please let us know if you would like to see us show Doctor Who related films in other locations.
This film is fully licensed through Filmbank Media and we are glad to be contributing to the screen industry. The Glasgow Doctor Who Society is a constituted non-profit group, we aim to cover the costs of our events and any profits are put into future events. Our society aims to provide support for a vibrant social community of Doctor Who fans in the Greater Glasgow area, hosting welcoming and accessible social meetups in the Hope and Vincent pub in Glasgow city centre on the first and third Sunday of every month and further events and adventures throughout the year.
