Next FolkeSong Sessions Presents 5th September a cracking triple bill with the legendary Roger Hubbard coming up from Hastings, from Sheffield a singer songwriter I caught at Mt friends venue in Chesterfield and had to book him Alistair Gordon and Hythe based troubadour Jack Pound. I'll open up and do a few tunes too!
It's a listening room so we can truly honour the craft of songwriting with plenty of time between acts to fill your glasses and catch up with your pals. As ever, it's just a wee room packed full with big talent so get your tickets in advance.
Alastair Gordon started performing original material on the Berlin open mic scene in his late teens. Since then, his voice has been shaped into a rich baritone through years of busking and a creative approach to guitar and harmonica have been shaped by adventurous listening habits. The clearest influences include John Martyn, Charlie Parr and The Felice Brothers. Lyrical content often tackles unconventional subject matter and reflects a life split between South Yorkshire and North Saxony. He has performed alongside some of the most exciting artists on the contemporary folk scene including Fern Maddie, Brown Horse, Jim Ghedi, Alabaster de Plume, Gwenifer Raymond and The Brothers Gillespie.
"Off kilter quirky baritone - that's a very difficult style to pull off. Alastair absolutely nails it." Christian Carlisle, BBC Sheffield
Roger Hubbard
He first recorded for the US blues label Blue Goose in 1970 and he is known for authentic
representation of country blues styles especially slide guitar.
His set is interspersed with his own songs.
His song Homelovin’ Man was recorded by US bluesman Eric Bibb.
Jack Pound needs no introduction to a local audience being an influential and prolific songwriter who's ear is close to the ground and continues to make relevant and important and interesting music for 6 decades.
