Ollie Hawker and Zoe Markle will be performing a programme for double bass, singing saw and electronics. Having met at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2022, they cofound international artist collective Inland Ocean. The duo then worked on this project during a residency at the Equivalent Behaviour studio in London, May 2023 in partnership with Ensemble Matters.
It is music that prioritises tenderness and fragility; equal parts intimate and massive, like being inside during a thunderstorm. The programme’s centrepiece is The loveliest thing in the world from a quiet train home for double bass and electronics, written by the duo during the residency to explore interference patterns and fragmented folk melodies. The programme also includes Ben Portzen’s heartbreaking You, the rain for solo bass, David Fennessy’s The Room is the Resonator, reworked by Zoe and David for double bass and electronics, and a bass and saw improvisation by Ollie and Zoe.

Ramilda is the experimental solo project of Kirke Gross, a London-based Estonian artist. It focuses on dark, atmospheric cello drones blended with live electronics and songwriting.
