"The only really satisfactory way to dispose of Peeping Tom would be to shovel it up and flush it swiftly down the nearest sewer. Even then, the stench would remain.” So wrote Derek Hill in the Tribune in 1960 upon seeing Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom. Nowadays considered a classic of British Cinema, the talk will look at the role of audience voyeurism in cinema and how the film explores the relationship between viewer and image.
The talk will be followed by a screening of Peeping Tom, and then a Q&A with Mark Poole.
